Paul Taylor Dance Marks Mahaiwe’s Fifth Anniversary
It’s no secret that I love the zippy, naughty and highly entertaining pieces churned out by Taylor, an artist whose choreography is based not on the agony and ecstacy but on the foibles and realities of real life. If it has a bit of a gay sensibility, then it is muy simpatico; It is in this special brand of humor that we recognize ourseves in his works.

Karole Armitage Creating “Red” for Jacob’s Pillow Gala
The second section is fueled by the description in quantum mechanics of the volatility of the universe. In response, Armitage has created four precarious, high-speed duets, set to Chatham’s driving original score for 100 massed guitars specifically tuned to produce micro-tones. The last section draws from string theory…

NT Live’s “London Assurance” a Top Pick at the Mahaiwe June 28
Many of the funniest lines are not bona fide Boucicault, but the work of contemporary writers. In fact the cast’s ad libs and other revisions are what bring the house down every night. Beals delivers a whoops-a-daisy omnisexual portrayal, floating airily round in brocade dressing gown and billowing trousers. which is matched by Fiona Shaw as they both lunch on the scenery.

Parade Aid 2, a Rockin’ Concert for Pittsfield’s July 4 Parade
“People tend to think a parade is a one day event that comes and goes effortlessly, said Peter Marchetti, parade treasurer. “What they don’t realize is how hard our volunteers work on a year round basis to help it run smoothly.” Parade Aid 2 which takes place on June 26 is one of the creative ways they raise the funds while providing the community some great music.

Interview: Director Christopher Innvar on “The Whipping Man”
Innvar: “We too are playing it as real as we can though no limbs are actually being cut off. It is pretty horrifying to watch, even in simulation. I think it is going to be shocking.”
