Tucked away in the hilly woods of Becket is the fabled Dream Away Lodge, an unexpected oasis of warm fireplaces, shabby chic furniture and gracious hospitality. With great food and drinks it offers a constantly changing menu of musicians who seem to thrive on the laid-back and appreciative audiences they find there.

In Short: Friday, Nov. 5, 2010. Old time Appalachian roots music with Moonshine Holler. Dream Away Lodge, 1342 County Rd., Becket MA. 8:30 PM. No Cover. (413) 623-8725 for info and dinner reservations.

This Friday, Moonshine Holler will be playing, and they can only be described as a two person music festival which captures the essence of American southern roots music. If you like old time Appalachian music (with bluegrass overtones) the Dream Away on Friday is well worth the trip even if you are some distance away.

Moonshine Holler, the husband and wife duet of Paula Bradley and Bill Dillof, captures the essence of American music with a repertoire that includes Carter family classics, hillbilly blues and mountain ballads, as well as spirited renditions of banjo/fiddle breakdowns and knock-your-socks-off flatfoot dancing. Known for their musical prowess on more instruments than they can juggle (banjo, fiddle, guitar, Hawaiian guitar, harmonica, ukulele), Paula and Bill are two performers steeped in old time traditional music and have performed at festivals and music camps across the country and in Ireland. Read more about them on My Space.

Bradley recently toured Germany and the U.S with old-time darlings “Uncle Earl”. She has also toured and recorded with banjo innovator Tony Trischka and traditional music powerhouse Bruce Molsky and appears on Trischka’s latest CD “Territory”, named “Best Americana Album” by the Independent Music Awards (IMA) in 2009.

“Paula & Bill are two of the most versatile and knowledgeable old-time musicians I know. They can pull off so many facets of the tradition with such ease. They’re great players, great singers, and know how to have fun!” – Rayna Gellert, Rounder Records recording artist
