Barrington Stage Company (BSC) is launching a new, free membership program, #bsc35, for patrons ages 18-35. The new program allows members to purchase $15 tickets (regularly $25-$60) to more than 30 performances at Barrington Stage this season. The enticing evening events were announced by Julianne Boyd, Artistic Director, and Tristan Wilson, Managing Director.

#bsc35 tickets are available to members for the first Saturday performance and all Tuesday and Friday performances for the company’s main stage productions. Included are the upcoming productions of The Best of Enemies, The Game and Lord of the Flies (note: as there are no Tuesday performances of Lord of the Flies, members may attend on Wednesday evenings instead). On Stage 2, members are invited to select Friday and Saturday performances of all productions, including Mormons, Mothers and Monsters, playing now through July 31, and My Name is Asher Lev, playing Aug. 18 – Sept. 4, as well as select performances of Musical Theatre Lab Cabarets. For a complete listing of #bsc35 dates, see below or visit barringtonstageco.org/tickets.

Patrons may enroll in #bsc35 by calling the Box Office at 413-236-8888 or in person at 30 Union Street in Downtown Pittsfield. Once enrolled, #bsc35 members may reserve tickets in advance in the seats of their choice.

Young theatre-goers enjoy the new Barrington Stage #bsc35 program.

There’s even a Free Food and Beer Event

On Friday, July 29, Barrington Stage will host a special #bsc35 party at the Mainstage Theatre, 30 Union Street, Pittsfield. Free beer as well as food by Mad Jacks will be provided before the show at 7pm, followed by a performance of Mark St. Germain’s explosive new drama, The Best of Enemies at 8pm. Anyone age 18 to 35 may reserve a spot at the party by calling the Box Office at 413-236-8888 on or before Thursday, July 28, enrolling in the #bsc35 program and purchasing a discounted ticket to the July 29 performance of The Best of Enemies for just $15.

The new #bsc35 membership program is part of Barrington Stage 2.0, a set of technology-based initiatives aimed at developing young audiences including the creation of an iCritic™ booth in BSC’s Mainstage Theatre lobby – an online forum connecting theatre patrons to our audience on the Web; greater incorporation of video into overall audience engagement and cultivation efforts; and further development of the BSC website to incorporate blogging, video and social media tools.

Major funding for Barrington Stage 2.0 was secured through a New Generations Program for Future Audiences grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Theatre Communications Group (the national organization for the American theatre), awarded to Barrington Stage in 2010. This promotion has to be one of the most creative and appealing audience development efforts the Berkshires have ever seen.

Future Audiences grants were awarded to five theatres in 2010 with a successful track record of reaching young, culturally specific and/or underserved communities. Matching grants of up to $65,000 ($32,500 per year) were awarded to support the development or expansion of technology focused initiatives aimed at cultivating a diverse audience. Barrington Stage will receive $51,600 between 2010 and 2012 through the New Generations award and will fully match the grant to support Barrington Stage 2.0.

About Barrington Stage Company

Barrington Stage Company, a professional award-winning Equity regional theatre located in the heart of the Berkshires, in Pittsfield, MA, was co-founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Julianne Boyd. Barrington Stage’s mission is three-fold: to present top-notch, compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to find fresh, bold ways to bringing new audiences into the theatre—especially young people. Barrington Stage garnered national attention in 2004 when it workshopped, and premiered William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin’s musical hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which later transferred to Broadway’s Circle-in-the-Square Theatre where it won two Tony Awards and played more than 1,000 performances. In 2009/2010 Barrington Stage produced the world premiere of Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session, which later moved Off-Broadway to the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater. Barrington Stage was voted “Best Live Theatre” by The Berkshire Eagle readers in 2011 and was named “Best Theatre Company” in Metroland’s Best of the Capital Region 2009-2011.
