An impressive calendar of events for September and October has been announced for the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center. See the listings below.

There is one event that particularly caught our fancy. And it is coming right up. On Friday, September 9 at 8:00pm, Brooklyn’s alternative rock pioneers They Might Be Giants will bring their barn-storming live act to the Mahaiwe stage with a new show. Spirits will be high as the band celebrates the release of their brand new 18-song album Join Us! and their (almost) 30th year of uninterrupted rocking. In the spring of 2012 They Might Be Giants will celebrate their thirtieth year in music. It is their pearl anniversary, and they are actively wondering what practical things are made of pearl. As always, TMBG’s boundless energy and arresting melodies will engage all. Tickets are $27 to $34.

They Might Be Giants was founded by John Flansburgh and John Linnell, seen above in our lead photo. TMBG writes, records and tours continuously, has been involved in numerous television and film projects, and has an on-going podcast. They have won two Grammies. The John’s are frequently joined by Dan Miller on guitar, Danny Weinkauf on bass, and Marty Beller on drums.

Brooklyn’s Ambassadors of Love new masterpiece Join Us! has inspired the group to go on a very long tour in support of it. Great Barrington and the Mahaiwe is the second stop of their extensive September-November travels.

Join Us! was recorded over nine months in New York City with producer Patrick Dillett, Join Us is a truly remarkable album. From inspired electronic excursions to blazing barns-stormers with their explosive live band–They Might Be Giants is BACK. From the opening chime of “Can’t Keep Johnny Down” to the climactic blast of “You Don’t Like Me” Join Us! is TMBG at their finest.
