This is the play that I think is even better than the Stephen Spielberg film, so good in fact that it won five Tony Awards in 2011.
Hailed for its “theatrical magic” by The New York Times, War Horse puts live actors on stage alongside spectacular, beautifully-designed horse puppets to tell the epic story of Joey, a farm horse that is sold into the cavalry in World War I. Albert, the boy who trained and bonded with Joey on the farm, embarks on a treacherous journey to rescue the beloved animal from behind enemy lines.
This original National Theatre of Great Britain production, which packed houses in London and New York, comes to The Boston Opera House on its nationwide tour. This visually arresting and touching play features stirring music, a remarkable tale and astonishing puppetry by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, which brings to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride.
The beautifully restored Opera House is located at 539 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111.
