Sheffield, MA: – The Cantilena Chamber Choir and the Mt. Everett High School Choir & Madrigal Singers will present a concert of Monteverdi Madrigals on Friday, February 15th, 7:00 pm (changed from 7:30) at the Thomas Consolati Performing Arts Center, Mt. Everett High School in Sheffield, MA.

The concert is a culmination of a choral workshop on Monteverdi that occurs at the school during the week of February 11th with participants from all ensembles. The students will rehearse and perform with the Cantilena Chamber Choir under the direction of Andrea Goodman, and perform a few Madrigals under their director Chris Clark. Also on the program will be the Fire Songs of contemporary composer Morten Lauridsen, love songs with texts from Italian Renaissance poetry frequently set by Monteverdi and other composers of the time, and written in the musical style of the renaissance.

The concert is given through generous grants by the Local grants program of the Massachusetts cultural council in Sheffield, Alford-Egremont, New Marlborough and Monterey. Donations will also be accepted at the door before the performance. For more information visit www.cantilenachoir.org, or contact cclark@sbrsd.org or satbchoir@yahoo.com. Mt. Everett HS is located at Berkshire School Rd in Sheffield.

The Cantilena Choir, now in its ninth season, received Choral Arts New England’s Alfred Nash Patterson Award in 2011 for programming a unique concert at The Berkshire Museum. Andrea Goodman, the founder and director of the choir, also serves as the Music Director for the annual summer Saratoga Choral Festival in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The Mt. Everett High School Madrigals is an auditioned group that rehearses before school two days a week. Their literature is limited to sacred and secular music of the Renaissance Era. They are 1st place winners of the 2011 Lenox caroling Festival. Both the Choir and the Madrigals are under the direction of Chris Clark, Director of Vocal Music at Mt. Everett High School in Sheffield, Massachusetts, where he teaches grades 3-12 choir.
