The airlines, movie theatres and a few of the larger venues have been doing print-at-home ticketing for some time now, but in a new twist unveiled by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, they are going to go even further. Their new E-ticketing option allows patrons to designate tickets for their friends and family, and to send them via email.

The new BSO eTickets – available for most Tanglewood events as well* – allows patrons to easily access their tickets via a smartphone through their accounts at http://www.bso.org. The eTickets, which will be displayed on the smartphone with a barcode, will be scanned by an usher as patrons enter Symphony Hall. The eTicketing option, which can be accessed by all patrons regardless of the ticket delivery method chosen at point of purchase, allows patrons who may have lost their tickets or left them at home to gain access to them through their BSO.org account on their smartphones. Additionally, a patron can conveniently send an eTicket to friend in the event that the friend is arriving at a performance separately, eliminating the need for all attendees to be present at the same time to gain admittance.
