Founded in 1995, Barrington Stage Company (BSC) is a not-for-profit professional theatre company in the Berkshires (MA), with a three-fold mission: to produce top-notch, compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to find fresh, bold ways of bringing new audiences into the theatre, especially young people. July 3. Africa Then and Now with Going to St. Ives playwright Lee Blessing. Sunday, 1pm. BSC Stage, 36 Linden Street, Pittsfield. Join renowned playwright Lee Blessing as he shares what attracted him to the political subject matter in Going to St. Ives and how it mirrors what is happening in Africa today. Blessing will discuss the play’s two characters and the moral dilemma that lies at the heart of the work. FREE event.

July 26. Race and Redemption in Durham, N.C., with Ann Atwater. Tuesday, 4pm. Mainstage, 30 Union Street, Pittsfield. Meet the African-American civil rights activist (on whom the character in The Best of Enemies is based) to learn how she and Ku Klux Klan leader C.P. Ellis were transformed when they were finally able to overturn their long-held beliefs. FREE event moderated by playwright and BSC Associate Artist Mark St. Germain.
August 4. It’s Now or Never with Abby Schroeder. Thursday, 4pm. BSC Stage 2, 36 Linden Street, Pittsfield. Join the wife and collaborator of the late Aaron Schroeder, a songwriter/music publisher/record producer, as she discusses their role in Elvis Presley’s rise to fame. Aaron co-wrote many of Elvis Presley’s songs including five #1 hits and Elvis’ biggest-selling single ever (included in our Youth Theatre musical All Shook Up), “It’s Now or Never.” FREE event.

Join the creative team of The Game and learn about the evolution of this breathtakingly sexy musical – from its adaptation of the classic novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses to the Barrington Stage world premiere in Sheffield in 2003 to the current production in downtown Pittsfield. Playwright/Director Aaron Posner will discuss how a modern classic novel such as Chaim Potok’s My Name Is Asher Lev is adapted into a dramatic form for the stage. Posner will discuss the process beginning with the first idea through the play’s premiere on the stage. FREE event.
