Update – Now Opened – Read our Review!

Judy Gold has a knack for making people laugh.

In a season filled with promise, it is Jewdy’s Show – My Life as a Sitcom which has my funny bone twitching in anticipation of great fun. Judy Gold’s latest outing opens the Williamstown Theatre Festival this Thursday June 24 at the Nikos Theatre. You should not miss it, you don’t have to be gay or Jewish to enjoy her unique take on life in America today.

“Most of my adult life I have struggled with the conflict of being Jewish, and being gay, and being a mother and a comedian.” – Judy Gold

To begin with it’s all about Judy Gold’s America. She is a very funny woman who has appeared on the Comedy Channel a lot, and has won two Emmy awards as a writer and producer for The Rosie O’Donnell show.

This show grows out of her well received Off-Broadway show 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother. In 2006 it earned her a Drama Desk nomination for outstanding solo performance.

Nicholas Martin, artistic director of Williamstown Theatre Festival knows her work and humor well. While at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston he worked with her on that very same 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother. This continues that relationship, and the evolution of a very funny woman, actor and humorist.

Jewdy’s Show debuted in Washington, DC to excellent reviews, and the New York Times has called her work “Fiercely funny, honest and moving.”

In Williamstown, her show will get a completely fresh and new production, building on the success of 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother. Gold is using this opportunity to have a hilarious look at her amazing life through the lens of the classic sitcoms of her youth. With multimedia, original music, laughter, and love, Judy shows us how she balances family and ambition in a world where she sometimes does not fit. Festival Artistic Associate Amanda Charlton directs, with scenic design by Andrew Boyce,

The outing has been written by Judy Gold and Kate Moira Ryan, and contains original music by Gold, and additional material by Eric Kornfeld and Bob Smith.

Most recently, Judy has been in the cast of Nora & Delia Ephron’s off-broadway play, Love, Loss and What I Wore. Gold can be seen regularly on Tru TV’s The Smoking Gun Presents. She has guest-hosted ABC’s The View, where she has appeared numerous times, and appears regularly on The Joy Behar Show on CNN.

Judy recently appeared on Ugly Betty and The Wendy Williams Show.

She was the host of HBO’s At the Multiplex with Judy Gold from 1999 – 2009, and also hosted Comedy Central’s 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time and the GLAAD Media Awards, which aired on LOGO and VH1.

Her TV specials include a half-hour comedy special for LOGO, and she is featured in the HBO documentary, All Aboard.  Her stand-up specials include Comedy Central Presents: Judy Gold, Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd Stands Up, and Judy’s HBO half-hour special, which received a Cable Ace Award.
