The Rhinebeck Readers Theatre presents a staged reading of Eric Coble’s recent Broadway hit The Velocity of Autumn on Saturday March 19 at the Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill.
Marlene Golia and Thomas Day star in this dark comedy about an aging, independent artist who is resisting her children’s attempts to move her out of her home. In a simple Brooklyn brownstone, 79-year-old Alexandra lives a solitary existence with her fleeting memories and enough explosives to take down most of the block. At an impasse with her family over how she should spend her autumn years, Alexandra’s long-absent son Chris, who she has not seen for 20 years, comes back to deal with the situation and in the process discovers the truth of who he is.
No sooner are the words ‘Hi, Mom’ uttered than the emotional bombs start detonating. The Velocity of Autumn is a wickedly funny and wonderfully touching discovery of the fragility and ferocity of life.
The reading, directed by Richard Rizzo, will be presented on Saturday, March 19th at 7:30 pm in the Speakeasy at the Bridge Street Theatre, 44 West Bridge Street, Catskill, NY.
Tickets are $10 and go on sale at the door one half hour prior to the performance. For more information, visit the theater’s website at BridgeSt.org.
