Albany Pro Musica continues to celebrate its 35th Anniversary Season with a celebration of the different cultures that make up our unique region. A City of Immigrants, a concert featuring Albany Pro Musica and guest artists The Musicians of Ma’alwyck, The Capital District Youth Chorale, and Saratoga Springs’ Nacre Dance Company, will take place at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 4 PM.
This performance is an homage to the rich cultural heritage of the Capital Region. Albany’s nickname “City of Immigrants” inspired this unique concert featuring music from many of the cultures which have influenced our region, including Dutch, German, English, Italian, Polish, African-American, Asian, Irish, Jewish and Hispanic. The concert will include the world premiere of a work by Albany Pro Musica composer-in-residence Steve Murray, commissioned exclusively for this event.
This performance is preceded by many events currently being celebrated throughout the Capital Region, including art exhibitions and lectures. A complete listing may be found here: http://www.albanypromusica.org/city_of_immigrants/events/ These events are being coordinated by Sharon Roy and Karen Hitchcock.
The City of Immigrants festival is sponsored by Bank of America, and has benefited greatly from the input and support of an advisory committee including: William Kennedy, Len Tantillo, The Honorable Jack McEneny, Robert Bullock, Rex Smith, Matthew Bender, Miriam Trementozzi, Karen Hitchcock, and José Daniel Flores-Caraballo.
Albany Pro Musica, led by Artistic Director and Conductor Jose Daniel Flores-Caraballo, is revered for its mastery of intimate a cappella works and large-scale choral repertory with orchestra. Highly regarded as a world-class chorus with national and international performance credits and honors, APM has been named the Chorus-in-Residence at the University at Albany (SUNY) and at the historic Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. The Chorus, now in its fourth decade, is proud to be the region’s leader for ambitious, compelling choral projects.
