Swing Dancing returns with The Lucky 5 at Pittsfield’s Shire City Rhythm Club

The former Notre Dame church in Pittsfield’s Upstreet Cultural District, now known as the Shire City Sanctuary, is hosting The Shire City Rhythm Club’s Swing Dancing with The Lucky 5 on Friday, April 15, 2016. A night of swing dancing from 8pm to 11am, offering free swing dance “lessons” from 7pm to 8pm.

The Lucky 5 is a hard-swinging jazz band that blends swing and gypsy jazz to create a unique, foot-stomping blend of music that appeals to a wide range of music lovers. The Lucky 5 performs both original compositions as well as putting a new spin on old jazz standards.

The band is comprised of highly seasoned touring musicians, having been part of The Hunger Mountain Boys, Lauren Ambrose & The Leisure Class, and traveled, performed and recorded with artists such as Peter Gabriel, Tony Bennett, Neko Case, Iris Dement, Bobby Previte, Del McCoury, Jim Lauderdale, just to name a few.

The Lucky 5 brings verve, high energy, and an unpredictable impulse to the tradition of jazz from the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, grooving deeply, and keeping feet moving on the dance floor. luckyjazz.com

I love these guys. Wonderful musicians, wonderful people. Very impressive! – Alan Chartock, WAMC Radio

The Shire City Rhythm Club will give a one hour lesson prior to the dance that will teach beginners and advanced students alike hot dance steps and swing moves to incorporate into the evenings partner style dance from 7 pm to 8pm. The lesson is included in the ticket price. All ages are welcome, beer, wine, and pizza will be available at a separate cost. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, and Shire City Sanctuary members will receive 25% off. Tickets are available via eventbrite.com or by calling Shire City Sanctuary 413-236-9600.

A community arts makerspace and eventspace, Shire City Sanctuary houses a screen printing shop, sewing lab, commercial kitchen, meeting space, studios, and cyber offices in the makerspace on the lower level. The former church sanctuary upstairs serves as an inspiring 5,000 square foot eventspace for performances, installations, special events, weddings and more, and is available for rent.
