On Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 8 p.m., the Boston Symphony Orchestra will present “Tanglewood in the City,” a live video presentation at Symphony Hall in Boston, featuring the orchestra’s performance of Orff’s Carmina burana, transmitted from a live performance at Tanglewood, the BSO’s summer home in the Berkshire hills of Western Massachusetts.

The special program will open with conductor Jacques Lacombe leading the orchestra in Debussy’s symphonic poem, Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun, and Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe, Suite No. 2. For the second half, Mr. Lacombe and the BSO are joined by soprano Nadine Sierra, tenor Jean-Francis Monvoisin, and baritone Stephen Powell, as well as the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, for Orff’s rousing Carmina burana. Symphony Hall doors will open at 6:30 p.m.; a prelude concert featuring alumni of the Tanglewood Music Center will take place at 7:30 p.m., followed by a pre-concert video about Tanglewood; the BSO concert video presentation will take place from 8 to 10 p.m.

In the spirit of the evening’s theme—“Tanglewood in the City”—patrons can pre-order picnics through www.bso.org; food may also be purchased at bar areas throughout Symphony Hall. Patrons are also encouraged to enjoy the concert in the classic style of the Tanglewood lawn experience; a limited area of the hall will be made available for patrons to enjoy the video presentation from the comfort of their own blankets. This special event is free and open to the public on a first come first served basis; tickets, which must be reserved in advance, are available by phone at SymphonyCharge at 888-266-1200 or online at www.tanglewood.org.
