Next up at the HRC Showcase Theatre will be a staged reading of The Kitchen Table Plays, by Erin Breznitsky. The story consists of five vignettes: four people gather around a kitchen table, which promptly breaks in front of their eyes. One by one, they take turns telling stories: A man tentatively starts over after his divorce. A woman tries to show her sick granddaughter that life is still worth living. A repair man visits the home of a grieving young woman. Two parents attempt to heal their volatile son. A dinner party uncovers a blistering betrayal. The stories intertwine as the group tries to put their kitchen table—the heartbeat of their homes—back together again.

Barbara Waldinger, who begins her seventeenth year as the Artistic Director of HRC Showcase Theatre, will direct a cast of professional actors that includes Benjamin Katagiri, Hana Kenny, John Romeo, and Eileen Schuyler. Mary Egan will narrate the play.

HRC Showcase Theatre will present The Kitchen Table Plays on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 7:30 pm in the auditorium of the First Reformed Church, 52 Green Street, Hudson, NY. The performance will be followed by a reception, featuring delicious snacks and beverages, and a talk-back with the playwright, actors, and director. Admission is $15. For reservations, please telephone 518-851-2061. Walk-ins are always welcome.

This program is made possible (in part) with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, administered through the Community Arts Grants Fund in Columbia County by the Greene County Council on the Arts.
