Don Juan in Hell

Shaw’s Don Juan in Hell is the dream sequence from the longer work, Man and Superman, in which three characters from Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Don Juan, Dona Ana, and the statue of the Commendatore, Dona Ana’s father) meet the Devil in Hell and discuss, debate, and argue about Heaven and Hell, men and women, the state of humanity, and marriage.

Silent Sky

True story of 19th century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt who begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900’s. As Leavitt attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love. Silent Sky explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them.

Doors open at 7 pm for complimentary beverages and refreshments at Dewey Memorial Hall, 91 Main Street (Rt. 7) in Sheffield, MA. The readings begin at 7:30 pm, with a discussion following.
