The Passing of Larry Murray

17191025_10155018134358955_8941974279907336842_nIt is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Larry Murray, founder of this site. Larry passed away quietly early on March 10 following a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his two sisters, nephews and nieces, and innumerable friends. His obituary and further updates will be posted as they become available.

Charles Guiliano has posted a lovely remembrance of Larry, with links to many interviews he conducted over the years, on his Web site Berkshire Fine Arts. A recommended read!

It was Larry’s wish that I, Gail M. Burns, take over and continue this site, and in fact he passed the reins to me about a month ago. I am committed to keeping BerkshireOnStage.com the premiere source for information on theatre in the Berkshire/NT Capital District/SW Vermont region.

I hope you will continue to send me news of your openings, auditions, and other important announcements at the new e-mail address: BerkshireOnStage@gmail.com

By the time I realized that there were things that needed to be done behind the scenes to switch everything here and on Facebook, Twitter, etc. from Larry’s name to mine it was too late to bother Larry with those details. Since I am not a blood relation I have little sway with these large corporate entities – even blood relations need a court order to make changes to a deceased person’s Facebook account – so there will be hitches and glitches as I transition things. I will keep you posted here. In the meantime, I consider the continued presence of Larry’s name and photo on various communications to be a tribute to a wonderful man, rather than a macabre reminder of his passing.

  1. How terribly sad. I didn’t know Larry but have enjoyed following this blog for two years. I saw a picture of him recently on the blog where he was receiving some kind of tribute, and remember thinking he did not look well. What courage he had to continue on in the face of his illness. My sincere condolences to his family and friends, and my best wishes to you, Gail, as you carry the torch in his name.

    • Thank you, Lauren. That photo was actually of Larry about to present the first-ever Larry Murray Award at the inaugural Berkshire Area Theatre Awards last November, another lasting legacy for Larry in this area.

  2. Oh no! I am so, so sad to read this 😦 I live in the UK but the email updates I subscribed to were always so fabulously entertaining and informative … RIP Larry Murray and I llook forward to receiving them from you now Gail, glitches and all 🙂 Thank you.
