What if Death offered a reprieve, so long as a willing replacement could be found? This is the question posed by an ancient tale, but retold now with a modern twist. On Sunday, May 21 at 2pm, Town Players of Pittsfield offers a very special presentation by Richard Matturro of his novella Alcestis at the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield. This is the last in a series of readings Matturro has done for Town Players from his collection Porch of the Maidens, which has recently been released as a 6-CD audio book and which will be available for sale at the reading.
Matturro is a native of Rye, New York, and holds a doctorate in English with a specialization in Shakespeare and Greek Mythology. He spent sixteen years at the Albany Times Union and another twelve teaching literature at UAlbany. Admission is $10. The two-hour program will include one intermission and will be followed by a reception with refreshments.
