CHATHAM, NY — Adventures in Wonderland, Sherwood Forest and Oz await youngsters in three musicals at The Mac-Haydn Children’s Theatre this summer.
The first show is The Trials of Alice In Wonderland. In this new telling of the fanciful tale Alice is on trial for daring to grow and change. With the Cheshire Cat as a guide, she revisits Wonderland to gather evidence of her innocence. The Mad Hatter, White Rabbit and Caterpillar testify before the judge: The Queen of Hearts. Tweedledee and Tweedledum are attorneys, if only they can decide which side they are on! The songs Off With Her Head, Always Time For Tea, Rules Of The Game, Somewhere In A Dream and others add to the fun and help tell the story. The Trials of Alice In Wonderland performs June 30, July 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15
Next, the audience is transported to the forests of old England in Hi, Ho Robin Hood! Robin Hood and his band of merry men are robbing the rich to help the poor people of Nottingham. Prince John, who is ruling while King Richard The Lion-Hearted is on a crusade, is taxing people right out of their homes! The Sheriff of Nottingham can’t catch the clever bandits, and tries to trick Robin with an archery contest. Will Robin win the golden arrow and his sweetheart Maid Marian? Will King Richard return in time to save all of Nottingham, and the merry band? Find out as excitement, laughter and songs like We Lead A Merry Life, Come To The Fair, and Never Defeated make this a show that all youngsters will enjoy. Hi, Ho Robin Hood will be presented July 21, 22, 28 and 29.
The Wizard of Oz ends The Mac-Haydn Children’s Theatre season, running August 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19. A tornado swirls Dorothy’s house – with she and her dog Toto in it – to the magical land of Oz. To find her way back home she must follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Wizard’s castle to ask his help. Along the way she meets The Cowardly Lion, Tin Woodsman, and Scarecrow and the four new friends are sent on seemingly impossible missions. The many marvelous creatures of Oz, plus witches who are wicked and wonderful make for exciting adventures they have before Dorothy discovers “there’s no place like home.” Follow The Yellow Brick Road, Off To See The Wizard, and Ding, Dong, The Witch Is Dead are just a few of the familiar songs to enjoy.
