Oldcastle Theatre Presents Vocal Workshop

Oldcastle Theatre will present an eight week Vocal Workshop taught by composer, conductor, singer Thomas Lawrence Toscano  and featuring pianist Joan Forsythe of the Bennington College faculty, beginning Monday evening October 22nd and running through December 11th from seven to nine p.m. at Oldcastle Theatre 331 Main Street in Bennington.

The workshop is open to singers at all levels interested in enhancing their abilities to perform their favorite work. The classes will culminate in a public performance on stage at Oldcastle December 11th.

“These workshop sessions will lead you to improve breathing techniques, language presence and stage presence,” according to Mr. Toscano. “Through works of the students’ choice, they can unleash the performer inside them. We will work with students to enhance their ability to portray any aria, musical theater, standard or other genre of the vocal arts in an inspiring group session.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Denver, Maestro Toscano received a Masters in Music from Yale University.  He studied at the Tanglewood Institute and received a Masters in Education from New England Conservatory.   He was the founder of Opera OGGI in New York City and has served as Conductor for the National Youth Orchestra of Brazil, conducted the Munucipal Orchestra of Goias, Brazil and has guest conducted the Orchestra Polifonica of Siciliana among many others. He has conducted 50 world premieres including Donald Martino’s 1975 Pulitzer Prize winner “Notturno” in Boston. He has conducted orchestras in Germany, Venezula as well as orchestra throughout the United States. Maestro Toscano is also a composer of note and his worls have been performed in by the Cincinnati Coservatory. He has taught voice, conducting and composing from Italy to Rio de Janeiro to New York City.

Ms. Forsythe, in addition to teaching at Bennington College is a concert pianist who has also performed all over the world.

“This is an amazing opportunity to for area singers to work with two highly experienced, consummate professionals and we are delighted to have them teaching at Oldcastle Theatre,” according to Oldcastle’s Producing Artistic Director, Eric Peterson. “We are working to increase the number of classes taught at the theatre and this is a particularly strong addition.”

The cost of the eight week workshop is $160.00.
