Recently named by Yankee Magazine as one of the best ways to see fall foliage by train, Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum’s Hoosac Valley Train Ride is gearing up for the busy fall foliage season in the Berkshires. BSRM will offer four trains every weekend and on Columbus Day. In addition, BSRM will offer two very special educational, informative and fun themed rides during the month of October 2017.
Fall Foliage Trains
Fall Foliage trains will operate every weekend beginning Saturday, September 30 through Sunday, October 29th including Columbus Day, October 9th. Trains will depart at 10AM, 11:30AM, 1:30PM and 3:00PM for a one-hour, round trip experience. On board the vintage 1955 Budd Rail Diesel Car, BSRM’s uniformed train crew will provide historical highlights along the route which offers views of the Hoosac River, Mount Greylock and Hoosac Mountain Range. Tickets are $14.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors/armed forces and $10.00 for children ages 4 through 14 years of age. Trains are scheduled to depart from the North Adams boarding area, located directly behind the Brien Center Parking lot off American Legion Drive. However, construction has begun on a 1-mile track extension to permit trains to reach downtown Adams. If service to downtown Adams is possible, BSRM will announce any operational changes via its website and Facebook accounts. Fall Foliage Trains WILL NOT be able to operate on Sunday, October 1 due to road closures as a result of the North Adams Fall Foliage Parade.
Spirited Train Rides – Do you believe?
Responding to guest feedback and interest in a paranormal themed event for the fall season, BSRM will offer an event unlike any other offered before: BSRM will host Spiritualist Minister, Author and professional psychic-medium Julie MacDonald for Spirited Train Rides. “The Hoosac Valley is rich with stories of days past and we want to offer people an opportunity to view that history through a different perspective, so we are hosting this special event to not only respond to demand for such an event, but also encourage interest in the rich history of this area,” said Trevor Dorgan, Marketing Coordinator for the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum.
Many investigators have come from far and wide to investigate paranormal activity in the Hoosac Valley. On Saturday October 14th and 21st, guests will now have an opportunity to investigate themselves with Julie’s help. Passengers will climb aboard BSRM’s vintage Budd Rail Diesel Car and learn how to tap into spirit energies with their body and other senses on the ride to Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Southview Cemetery, founded in 1888, is a beautifully designed Victorian style cemetery that transports visitors to a by-gone era and has been visited and investigated by paranormal investigation teams.
Trains will depart promptly at 5:30 pm. Upon arrival at Southview, patrons will detrain and take a walking tour through the cemetery (which is in the shadow of the Hoosac Tunnel) with Julie as their guide. They will also have the opportunity to see and/or feel the energy of spirit around them with Julie’s guidance. Information and messages from the world of Spirit will be delivered as it is given to Julie.
This experience is part train ride and part walking tour and will last approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. Approximately one hour will be spent outdoors; please come prepared for any weather. In the event of severely inclement weather, Julie and patrons will ‘tune in’ to the cemetery and spirit while staying in the protective covering of the passenger car. Tickets are $40; this experience is only for guests 18 years of age and older; ages 16 & 17 (with adult chaperone); please note there are no restroom facilities available at the cemetery or on-board the train. In order to fully enjoy the experience, passengers must be fully ambulatory and be able to climb up and down stairs.
