Classic Theater Guild Auditions for “Of Mice and Men”

The Classic Theater Guild will hold auditions for John Steinbeck’s drama Of Mice and Men at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 4, and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5 at the Temple Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway, Schenectady, NY.  Performances will take place on March 8, 10-11, 14-15, and 17-18.  (The Temple is unavailable on Fridays.)  John Birchler will direct.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

All roles are available.  Here are the characters and brief descriptions:

George Milton – small man, Lenny’s caretaker; begrudges this role; dreams of owing a farm

Lenny Small – huge, powerful, amiable man: doesn’t know his own strength and doesn’t remember well; a man of “special needs;” shares George’s dream

Candy – stoop-shouldered old man

The Boss – no particular distinguishing features

Curley – short-tempered banty rooster of a man, jealous of his wife, seems to look for fights

Curley’s Wife – fancy, taunts men, trouble waiting to happen

Slim – tall, dark, moves majestically

Carlson – big gut, powerful

Whit – no particular distinguishing features

Crooks – African-American, many aches and pains

Of Mice and Men takes place during America’s Great Depression.  Costumes and hairstyles will reflect that period.

Rehearsals will begin shortly after New Year’s Day and continue two or three evenings a week until Opening Night.   They will begin at 7 p.m.  There will be no rehearsals on weekends except for the weekend before Opening Night.
