“[Kiril Karabits] conducts an interpretation that is telling in its emotional thrust.” – The Telegraph (UK)

Staatskapelle Weimar, founded in 1491, is one of the oldest, most illustrious orchestras in the world. Its history is closely associated to some of the world’s best known musicians and works. In 1756, Duchess Anna Amalia made the orchestra the primary musical institution of the city of Weimar. There are many famous names in classical music history that have been associated with the orchestra including Johan Hummel, Franz Liszt, Richard Strauss and many others. This orchestra has never previously toured in North America.

“Karabits is an inspired architect….He has an energizing presence on the podium, without being domineering…he paced the whirlwind finale in a way that brought the house down.” (The Telegraph)

Since 2008 Ukrainian conductor Kirill Karabits has held the position of Chief Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Besides concerts throughout the orchestra’s home region, together they regularly appear at the BBC Proms as well as have toured through Germany and produced a critically acclaimed recording of a Prokofiev symphony cycle in the last seasons.

Piano London-based Sunwook Kim came to international recognition when he won the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition in 2006, aged just 18, becoming the competition’s youngest winner for 40 years, as well as its first Asian winner. His performance of Brahms’s Concerto No.1 with the Hallé Orchestra and Sir Mark Elder in the competition’s finals attracted unanimous praise from the press. Since then, he has established a reputation as one of the finest pianists of his generation, appearing as a concerto soloist in the subscription series of some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra (Gardiner, Harding), Concertgebouw Orchestra (Chung), Berlin Radio Symphony (Janowski), NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Finnish Radio Symphony (Oramo, Manze, Sokhiev), Philharmonia Orchestra (Ashkenazy, Valcuha, Gardner), London Philharmonic (Sinaisky), Radio-France Philharmonic (Chung), NHK Symphony (Steffens), Hallé Orchestra (Elder), and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for his BBC Proms debut in Summer 2014. This season Sunwook will make his debut with the RTSI Orchestra in Lugano (Beethoven 3 with Vladimir Ashkenazy), the Guerzenich Orchestra in Cologne (Britten with Michael Sanderling) and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse for a performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto.
